Tamari who is also daughter of the immigrant parents says that the situation in her family changed as well. I asked her to share her story with me and to tell how the immigration effected her and her parents.
“Before coming to the U.S. my mom was at home and my dad was working but he was still managing to spend some good quality time with me. First he was working as a manager of the factory that was making bicycles.
Everything changed when we came to the U.S. Both of my parents started to work as a live-in home health aide. It was hard to get used to the fact that both of my parents had to go out and work. I was alone at home most of the time and I had a lot of responsibilities; I was doing all the housework and plus I was going to school.
I think to find a perfect balance in between work and family life is very hard especially for the immigrants. This is a huge issue for the most immigrant families. I think this kind of situation is very stressful for parents as well as for children. “
