Prior to reading this article, I thought graphic design was strictly software. I was unaware as to what is considered to be graphic design and how expansive that list is. It’s amazing to see that in my own average day, I’m surrounded by things that are graphicly designed. The author of the article speaks about the graphics on posters to environmental graphics (which I didn’t even realize is a form of graphics) to apps on my phone. The article expanded my knowledge of not only what is considered to be graphic design, but a more in depth understanding of what graphic design is. Knowing that graphic design is also known as communication design actually helps me understand what can be included in the branches of graphics.
If I could pose a question to the author, I would want to know is every piece of graphic design unique? I think it’s almost a hard question to answer. Maybe everything is unique or maybe it has been used in another graphic we have not seen. The answer to the question may be yes. Each graphic is unique in its own way, whether it be a different curvature in a letter or different colors used in the visualization. But then again, the answer could be no. Maybe there are too many graphics already created that it is almost too difficult to create something new.
