Could you possibly imagine a movie without popcorn? Well in the 1920’s people weren’t even allowed to bring popcorn to the theaters due to the assumption that garbage on the floor will ruin their nice carpets. So when did popcorn finally come up? It started when Julia Braden in Kansas City, Mo persuaded Linwood Theater to allow her to sell popcorn in their lobby. The outcome? Well let’s just say she set up a monopoly of popcorn in 1932 and brought in $14,400, which sum up to $336,000 in just one year. When people found out about this idea, ticket prices dropped to let more people witness popcorn in movie theaters. Why did they finally let popcorn allowed in movie theaters? With the money and profit they brought in, the prices for the carpet was a very small fraction of the total they made. With this in mind, it only took till the 1940’s for every movie theater to follow the trend.
