Fashion week took a brand new approach this year, Vera Wang and Marc Jacobs were “onto the sports trend back in New York.” Fashion week in last September showcased “athletic mesh fabrics…in insets on the back of dresses or layered underneath…and variations of modified tracksuits…”
Even big names like Giovanna Battaglia, a W magazine editor, and Brunello Cucinelli, “showed up to the Bottega Veneta show in a Junya Watanabe dress that would have been comfortable for running a marathon…and got into the locker-room spirit with track pants…” Some sporty fashions were less noticeable like “Miuccia Prada’s athletic socks and sandals, and some dresses that vaguely resembled jerseys.”
But, this year it’s all about being comfortable. Living in a bustling city like New York who can resist dressing to impress and still have the freedom to squeeze on a crowded subway.
