Amongst the rubble of many of the abandoned and desolate buildings in the area of Long Island City, various strides were made by the city government to establish new educational environments that would help in nurturing a foundation for the future for many individuals. This is seen in the case of Laguardia Community College. Laguardia Community College was first established in the year 1968 in a building that used to be a factory that produced supplies for the US army during World War II. Since then Laguardia has provided many students with the ability and opportunity to learn and progress in the modern world with its affordable tuition and easy accessibility. In addition to Laguardia, other educational institutions are also gaining fame in the area which is seen in the case of the Academy for Careers in Film and Television which boasts a brand new state of the art campus and provides an environment where high school students can pursue their dreams in a field that is often misrepresented in most other New York City Public schools.
