Passing is about two women meeting up after being old friends but these two friends went in 2 different directions in life. They’re both black but Irene chooses to stay black and Claire pretends to be white. Irene is married to a black doctor and they have 2 kids and are living comfortable with a maid in their home. Claire is married to a man name John, who when he meets Irene says he hates negroes and also makes a joke about Claire getting darker and darker every day and calling her “nig” short for nigger. Keep in mind if Claire family finds out she is really black she can be killed, but as she starts to see Irene every day living a decent life and she doesn’t have to pretend to be white, she starts coming around more and more. Claire dies at the end as her husband catches her at an event with black people.
