The problem that I attempted to solve was for my best friend who is a college commuter that travels from Queens to Manhattan via public transportation. She has to wear a mask most of the time when she travels but at certain points she can remove it. She tends to wear a reusable mask which can easily get dirty; therefore I designed a mask holder keychain for her to protect her mask from dirt, germs, and other toxins when she is not wearing it.
From the first part of this project, along with the feedback, I was lacking in solving a bigger problem. The issue is not major problem, but it is an issue that does exist even if it is not as important as other problems in the world. There are other products like the one that I designed, but from what I have learned there are ways to make ideas that exist better and therefore more profitable.
The conclusion that I came to was that this is more so an inconvenience than an actual problem or issue. I realized that there are other issues that came about when I was discussing the design and the problem. Something I could have done was focus more on the issues of the New York city public transportation and how dirty it was. Therefore coming up with the idea of some sort of strap/hook/claw that one can put in their bag or pocket and use to hold on to the poles of the train or bus so that they have a better grip, don’t have to touch the actual pole (that is dirty / has germs), and will not have to worry about being contaminated in anyway.
