Remix Draft

The purpose of this piece is to get my audience to understand the problem about the term “model minority” and how it plays a role in Asian American lives. I focused on model minority, instead of racial stereotypes because it is less broad. If my thesis is too broad, then my audience will not get the correct thesis across. I tried to used less of alphabetic text as possible in my video. I got most of my photos from Flickr, which I had a hard time searching because for creative commons, it makes the search less and less to choose from. I had the right picture in mind, but when I was searching for the photos, those did not come up. So I chose the best that I found. I actually had to brainstorm a lot for this project.

One of my decisions was deciding what type of genre to use. I was thinking about making a PowerPoint, but after hearing what Professor said about making a PowerPoint, it seems a bit of a challenge for my topic. A good PowerPoint is having one word in a slide with pictures. I did not take this route because I thought using this method can mislead my audience. My second option was using Wevideo, but something went wrong with my laptop, so I just took the easy way out and used iMovie.

My argument is that racial stereotypes, such as that of the model minority, should not be perpetuated because although they appear to be positive stereotypes, they have many harmful effects on individuals. In order to get my argument across, I used music, photos, and words. I believe I am almost done with the video; hopefully I just have to add something here and there. The hardest part about this project is that I did not know where to start. Furthermore, seeing what other students did in Professor’s class last semester actually set a bar for me. While viewing the work that last semester students did, I was wondering, “How can I do something like this? Can I do it?”. I doubt myself because it seemed extremely overwhelming. This is a writing class, and we are not incorporating a multimedia component to it. I have done well in finding photos, being creative, and doing the basic assignment.

I want my reviewers to focus on if my thesis is clear to them. Saying my thesis is different from demonstrating my thesis. What can I add, in which section? What can you recommend me to do? How was the effect of using only music, words, and images?
