First, describe your presence in this class. Did you know you were signing up for a hybrid writing class? What do you expect from a hybrid class? Have you taken one before? What questions do you have as we begin? What does “good participation” in a class mean to you in a hybrid context?
I knew that I was signing up for a hybrid class, but I did not know that there will still be work due on a non-class (online) day to be counted as a class day. This is my first time taking a hybrid class. I expect it to be challenging, and at the same time, manageable. Good participation in a hybrid class means doing all the assignments that are due online or in class, be part of discussions, and be respectful/ open-minded about what others have to say.
Next, tell me about you as a writer and a reader. What types/genres of writing do you enjoy? What forms of digital writing do you encounter in your everyday life and for what purposes?
As a writer, I usually write down notes that I need for my paper, then proceed. I do not like to read a lot, but I know that it is good for me. The genres of writing I enjoy is realistic fiction and non-fiction. I usually read Business Insider articles online because I see it on Facebook and if it seems to be an interesting article, I will read it. I usually read about how are big corporations are doing since I’m interested in Business.
What programs and/or technologies enable these forms of composing? Try to think widely here (email, social media, texting, word processing apps such as Google Docs, Microsoft Word, etc.).
The programs and technologies that enable these forms of composing are Google Docs and social media. It is social media that enables people to know what is going on in the world. Google Docs helps organize writers’ work and make it easier for multiple writers to work on the same piece.
What is your prior experience with composing using multiple forms of media? What is your method for reading analysis? Do you take notes? Do you read online, on your phone, etc? Do you prefer to have a tangible text?
My prior experience with composing using multiple forms of media was exciting and overwhelming. I am not a techie, so I had a hard time editing videos. My method for reading analysis is to read and take notes. I usually like to read from a hardcover because I would like to feel the book. When I read off from a computer, sometimes I lose focus.
Finally, what is your earliest memory of writing? How has “writing” changed for you since that memory? What are your strengths as a writer and/or composer of digital/online texts? Recall a past experience when you felt proud of your writing and digital composing: Who was the audience? Where did this piece of work circulate? What are your current views about writing?
My earliest memory of writing was when I was in Kindergarten, where I usually write “I go to the park with my mom. I love my mom”. My writing has changed drastically since that memory. I know how to use word choice, vary language use, and better transitions.
