Artist Statement
As an artist I find joy in loud noises mix of noises and remixes of things. My Ideal spot is Time Square the hustle and bustle that goes on there is incredible. There are noises from everything you hear taxi cabs yelling out there car, You have tourist speaking all different type of languages, you also see people doing crazy things its the mecca of NY. Also the lights is what tops everything for me. There are so many different billboards signs logo’s there are lights flashing from all different sides. If you stand on one side of Time Square you will see nothing but red lights glowing on you and if you cross the street to the other side its nice and bright LED type of lights its just unique.
What I enjoy doing as an artist is remixing things. Not like a DJ or anything but getting things that are original and mixing it with something that goes well with it. For example for my final project I used a Burger Funeral in a spooky graveyard and added a sound track of goosebumps with it that has been remixed the whole project is so different yet same at the same time which to me is unique. Overall after this class is what made me for of an artist and let me raise my horizon and started thinking outside the box. At first I was having trouble but once I started playing with a few sounds and tracks I nailed the final project perfect the sound track goes so well with the actual video especially the sound track is lined with the part where the graveyard becomes even darker.

Web Sound Airwaves
The author didn’t like orchestra and found it boring and plain. I totally disagree with him because I find it quit enjoying and it has an organized sound which is good in my opinion. The author does like street noise and random sounds in my opinion. He mentions the quote “This is why we get infinitely more pleasure imagining combinations of the sounds of trolleys, autos and other vehicles, and loud crowds, than listening once more, for instance, to the heroic or pastoral symphonies.” This shows how he is more of a random sounds type of person. I like organized sounds in a sense that flows with one another. While I went one UBUWEB SOUND I really enjoyed there Airwaves sound because it sounded quit fancy and elegance to it. It was organized and not random sounds and I found pleasure in it compares to the noises of autos and other vehicles. I don’t quit get why they called it Airwaves when it didn’t really sound like it but I know its deff. a deeper meaning behind the “Airwaves” instrumental. This sound is satisfying and soothing just gets you in a relaxing mood and gets you in a different state of mind. When I heard it I just felt like relaxing and kicking back. I believe mixing of noises can make something great thats how great things come along especially songs. A mix of different noise’s make a great noise which eventually can make a great instrumental for a song etc.

Digital Technology as a tool Response
The article is quite interesting in the aspect they look at Digital Technology as a tool. Reading this article I can see the evaluation of media happening everyday I could see how Digital Technology is a tool. In the article they mention that Nancy Burson made a big contributation to “morphing” which is transformation of a image or object into another. She changed the game if you want to put it in that way with her using the computer technology she was very heavy based on it. I can relate to this my self since in class we did the photo shop assignment I used digital technology to come up with the piece I made that I called ” The 100% load”. Digital Technology makes life so much easier. It makes dealing with art easier. If I didnt have digital technology I wouldn’t know how to do the art I did. This plays a big roll in today’s society also for all artist. I believe every artist “Big Tool” is digital technology you can perfect any image with it. What also caught my eye was the fact that they mentioned digital technology been used for a while now its a pretty old tool. It makes me think that since we keep making it better it just finesse’s the tool. All I got to say is YAY Digital Technology!
New Media Response
This was an interesting chapter to read. I also went ahead and looked around and read a little bit from other chapters since I was interested in it. What really stood out to me was the fact that the author wanted to distinguish old media and new media. Many people might think that new media is things such as a computer digital camera things that are basically electronic and used to transfer things electronically. As in old you would think books paper etc things that have nothing to do with technology. But as the author mentioned in the first chapter ” I address other principals that are often attribute to new media. I show that these principals can already be found at work in older cultural forms and media technologies such as cinemas , and therefore in and of themselves are in sufficient to distinguish new media from old.” As the author mentions this and responding on this statement I believe he is right that its hard to distinguish new media from old since a lot of stuff been around for a while. The best way to put it is that theirs no such thing as old or new media is more of an upgrade. Software programs have more features now. Computers can do more. Technology can make new media easier. For example the cinema been around for a while but over time the cinema has been getting better 3D movies HD etc that doesn’t make it new just an upgrade because the cinema and the movie came first before everything.

The Medium is the Massage
First of all what is really interesting about this article is that it was published in the late 60’s 70’s and I never read such an old article. You can tell the article wasn’t written in no 2016. What stood out to me the most is when McLuhan mentions technology in the beginning of his work. He said “Electric Technology is reshaping and restructuring patterns of social interdependence and every aspect of our personal life”.
That quote really was interesting since this article was written so long ago that in a way it seemed like he predicted the future in a sense. I say this because technology changed the world completely in all aspects of life if its your social life school,work.personal. Even art has been changed since technology came along just look at photo shop and all these great editing tools that we have now to do all sorts of things that they did not have in the 60’s and 70’s. Anyone remember back when we took a picture and the eyes would be red ? That doesn’t even happen anymore we take great pictures with our own phones that are good quality.
On another note I do feel that technology did help society also in so many different ways. In the 60’s and 70’s if you wanted to see someone you had to personally go to them but today you could video chat with someone in another country with out a problem and they could see you.
Also I remember back when I would take pictures when I was younger I had to take it with a disposable camera that had something called a “film” in it and would buy it at a rite aid and take pictures not knowing how they look and would just hope for the best then take it back to rite aid so they could develope the pictures and once you received the pictures if they were good or bad nothing you could possibly do. Just imagine your self its the day of your children’s birthday party and you took pictures with that camera and once you have them developed and you realize the lighting was to bright or too dark and the pictures look like total crap you cant do anything the party is done the event is over you would just have to suck it up. But in today’s society with digital cameras and phones with cameras we could take as many pictures as we want until we get the perfect picture and can see it right away and upload it to our computers and send it to who ever we like.
Overall technology was a game changer for everyone even our social lives we communicate with out friends through social media and people even find there husbands and wifes off the internet there isn’t no more going outside and looking for a potential partner everything happens online. I would like to see in another 20,30 years how advance technology will be then.
