New Media Response

This was an interesting chapter to read. I also went ahead and looked around and read a little bit from other chapters since I was interested in it. What really stood out to me was the fact that the author wanted to distinguish old media and new media. Many people might think that new media is things such as a computer digital camera things that are basically electronic and used to transfer things electronically. As in old you would think books paper etc things that have nothing to do with technology. But as the author mentioned in the first chapter ” I address other principals that are often attribute to new media. I show that these principals can already be found at work in older cultural forms and media technologies such as cinemas , and therefore in and of themselves are in sufficient to distinguish new media from old.” As the author mentions this and responding on this statement I believe he is right that its hard to distinguish new media from old since a lot of stuff been around for a while. The best way to put it is that theirs no such thing as old or new media is more of an upgrade. Software programs have more features now. Computers can do more. Technology can make new media easier. For example the cinema been around for a while but over time the cinema has been getting better 3D movies HD etc that doesn’t make it new just an upgrade because the cinema and the movie came first before everything.
