As the “ME ME ME” generation begins to takeover the workforce, many office environments are compelled to evolve. As the previous Baby Boomers and Gen X employers encounter their new colleagues, they are challenged with the duty to conform with what may be the new “office culture”. The new culture is expected to accept the needs of feedback on performance, close relationships with peers and the needed work-life balance. The need of recognition has always been embedded within a human. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs best shows that at the level of esteem that people want the respect from others and prestige. It’s just that us Millennials’ prefer to show more of the “esteem” that Maslow is talking about. We just want to know that we are doing a good job.
