The film version of Othello featuring Laurence Fishburne had several adaptations that had not been included in the book we were reading. The one major adaption that I shall be focusing on will be the scene where Iago is by himself speaking straight into the camera and has a chess board in front of him including one black piece and two black pieces. Iago then says how he is going to try and take down Othello which is signified by the black chess piece, this brought an important thought to me that signifies and shows that Othello can be identified most by his skin color. It also mirrors the complexity of the chess game with the plan that Iago concocts, while Iago plans his actions and has a planned for each way that Othello or somebody can react. This is similar to the game of chess where the move you made a couple plays ago could affect the outcome you initially wanted. This scene captures how Iago plotted to go after Othello from the very beginning and was also able to show how race was connected to parts of the play.
