Research Paper

Part I

As what we known, suicide is the second leading cause of death among teenagers, and it’s a growing concern in many countries worldwide. And I realized Teenages suicide rate are keeping increase in recent years, many young people even see that world completely then they chose kill themselves. I really want to know what happened, who created the demon to push them to go the wrong way? From what I’ve learned, many factors contribute to teenage suicide, including mental health disorders, bullying, social isolation, family problems, and academic stress. But For this paper, I’m going to explore what is the main and most serious cause for this tragedy. What needs to be addressed and changed immediately.

Part II

“I want to end my life.” There’s a demon whispering in my head. I feel despair, I can’t see the future in my life. So goodbye, everyone and goodbye to this world. Then, a life of the young who leave the world. Now, you feel blood cold down right? Relax but pay attention, that is a real and serious problem that happens everyday. For this question, I did the  research. There are too many reasons to cause that tragic result. I can’t even completely organize the stress and pain that the teenages are suffering. Based on my research and analyzed I would say school is the major factor that caused teenage suicide, because many kinds of stress come form school, the school bullying and school is a complex mini society.

School is the major factor that caused teenage suicide, because many kinds of stress come from school. Many of teenages were experiencing a beautiful age, that period was supposed to be joyful and wonderful. What made them had suicide though? If a person wants to end their own life, it must be something that crushed their spirit, there must be some pain in their mind and could not bear any more. Therefore they saw death as a liberation. Where does this pain come from? Let’s see the suicide letter from a kid who was only 16 years old and decided to kill himself.  Patrick, who was a only 10 grade student in Corona del Mar high school. A lively boy loves to play sports. You can imagine how positive he is , however, in his letter, he wrote that “So much pressure is put on kids to do good, and a lot of kids make mistakes,” “One slipup makes a kid feel like the smallest person in the world”, “You are looked at as a loser if you don’t go to college or if you get a certain GPA or test score. There is never a moment to brake.” (Whiting, David. “This 16-Year-Old’s Suicide Letters Are a Cry for Help and a National Call for Change.” Orange County Register, Orange County Register, 21 Mar. 2018, https://www.ocregister.com/2018/03/19/this-16-year-olds-suicide-letters-are-a-cry-for-help-and-a-national-call-for-change/. )  This is a primary source from the 16-year-old Patrick’s suicide letter, the letter was telling the reason that why he chose going to end his life and what is the pressure coming from. He was saying that the stress from school, because everyone looks at the grade to determine if a person is successful or failure. Kids are not allowed to make a mistake, the parents force them to study well, to get a good grade and they have no time to relax. School, a place where we almost stay half of our life. Think back about your school time, you do have some time really anxious about your essay, your grade, your final exam and so on, right? It seems the grade is the only standard that judges a person if good or not. Therefore you have to study hard, you have to spend every second to build a great grade report. During this, your body, even your brain, is already over-tried. You don’t even have time to breathe. But, no one cares how hard you worked, or how much you paid. You failed the exam, you failed your whole life in the parent and teacher’s mind. That is the stress which kills the teenages, which is invisible but huge. ALLAN SCHWARTZ. LCSW, PH.D., is a veteran psychoanalyst. Has been in private practice for over 25 years and is a graduate of NPAP (National Psychoanalytic Association); he had a long experience with therapy for anxiety and depression. Also, he is adept at studying the causes of mental illness. And published many articles for researching human psychology. One of this article is talking about the connection between school and teenage suicide.   It reveals that students’ seemingly ordinary campus life actually hides some deadly negative factors. Students not only bear the pressure of study, but also competition, teachers’ expectations. The learning environment of a school may play a decisive role in contributing to adolescent suicide. “There are certainly many pitfalls that teens face on the way to adulthood. Stress, worry, anxiety, tension and depression take a terrible toll on our young people. There are repeated headline news stories about kids taking their own lives as a result of bullying. During the school day, there is peer pressure to use drugs and alcohol. Competition for popularity among the in group and dreadful feelings experienced by those who are among the outsiders, results in emotional conflict and pain. Dating the opposite sex or facing homosexuality can be extremely painful for adolescents who struggle with low self esteem. In addition, family conflict, divorce, financial difficulties and joblessness can feed domestic abuse and violence. Any and all of these factors can make it difficult for our kids to be at school.” ALLAN SCHWARTZ. LCSW, PH.D. “High School and Teen Suicide, a Connection?” MentalHelp.net.  https://www.mentalhelp.net/blogs/high-school-and-teen-suicide-a-connection/

The source mentioned that the competition, relationship and the school bullying are all the reasons that caused negative emotion or anxiety in the school, and end up caused teenages suicide. In terms of grades, they may not be doing well; or in school groups or associations, teenagers may struggle to gain popularity. The blow of failure may cause them to complain about their own inadequacies and even start self-loathing. This kind of competition will extend to the parents of the conversation between the comparison. My child’s exam was good, my child won what prize; When you make any difference in the competition that puts your parents at a disadvantage, that child will be labeled a loser. This is the pressure from competition, which is easy to cause anxiety and depression among teenagers. The accumulated negative emotions will reduce their learning quality and even change their personality. They get depressed and turn to smoking and drinking. This leads to a vicious cycle where anxiety leads to a decline in learning, which in turn leads to harsher parental criticism and more negative emotions. Secondly, as the appeal states, a special individual, a teenager who is sexually or physically special to others, is considered “different” and they are excluded from the group of so-called “normal” people. This kind of isolation and exclusion, can not easily collective pressure extremely easily lead to young people’s self-doubt and inferiority. That’s why school is a major factor in student suicide, because teenagers are under different pressures all the time.

The second reason why school is the major factor that caused teenage suicide, because the school bullying. How easy it was to get started with school bullying and how easy it destroyed a person. School bullying would cause serious depression in the victim. They are not only suffering the physical jury but also the mental. There is a important factor that caused teenage suicide. Brian Yorkey is an American film and television producer. His work often explores the darkness of human nature and controversial subjects such as mental illness, school violence and human fads, exploring the impact of these issues in the public environment and how to guide education.  His work is often thought-provoking and addresses real issues. in the ‘13 reason why’ he investigates the heroine’s suicide in a suspenseful way and lays out the reasons leading up to it bit by bit. The plot is real and worth thinking about. In this TV series, Hannah is a student in high school, where she is sexually labeled, abused and beaten, struggling to adjust to living in an unsympathetic school environment. She eventually killed herself.  The whole bullying happens at school. The same people, the same social circle, the same bullying. We can see how easily rumors and jealousy can destroy a person. This is the main idea that this tv series wants to show; an innocent girl Hannah,  After sharing a kiss with Justin Foley, he spread rumors about Hannah’s promiscuity. The masses don’t care about Hannah‘s counterarguments. They believe what they want to believe, and they believe the gossip that excites them. This is where Hannah’s tragedy begins. “That’s how it is for girls. People judge you by the way you look, the things they hear about you. They put a label on you.”; “You don’t know what goes on in anyone’s life but your own. And when you mess with one part of a person’s life, you’re not messing with just that part. Unfortunately, you can’t be that precise and selective. When you mess with one part of a person’s life, you’re messing with their entire life. Everything. . . affects everything.”(“13 reason why” https://www.netflix.com/title/80117470?source=35😉 This pop source was mentioned one of  the important factor that caused teenages suicide; School is a mini cummunity or society. the information is separating really quickly. And, how horrible about the rumor, how easy that it could destroy a person. Once you get a label, you are not yourself, whether you deny or accept, you are the person that what label is. Anyone can unleash their venom on you because, being the “villain” on the label, no one cares about. Once the bullying get started, it will never stop. More and more people join this “fun game”. In real life, school bullying is even worse. The bullyer would use beatings, name-calling, targeting, and isolation to humiliate the bully. Compared with physical body damage, it is worse in psychology. Brunstein-Klomek, Anat; Marrocco, Frank; Kleinman, Marjorie; Schonfeld, Irvin Sam; Gould, Madelyn S who are the researchers or PhD from New York or Columbia University. Most of them devoted themselves to the field of psychology or spirituality, and each published many academic workswho have worked together on studies of bullying and adolescent suicide. In the academic source by them, connection between the bullying and the suicide. Their study showed that students who were frequently victimized or bullied were more likely to develop depression, ideation and suicide attempts than adolescents who were not involved in bullying. “Students who were involved in bullying behavior in or out of school, whether as a victim or a bully, were at significantly higher risk for depression, serious suicidal ideation (SSI), and suicide attempts compared with students who were never victims or bullies (Table 2). The more frequent the involvement in bullying behavior was (whether as a victim or a bully), the more likely the student was depressed, had SSI, or had attempted suicide. For example, students who were frequently victims in or away from school were seven times more likely to be depressed compared with students who were never victims. Students who were victims infrequently in or away from school were two to three times more likely to be depressed. Students who frequently bullied others in or away from school were three times more likely to be depressed compared with students who never bullied others. Students who bullied others infrequently were approximately two times more likely to be depressed. A similar pattern was found for SSI and suicide attempts. The only exception to the pattern of greater risk being associated with greater bullying involvement was for victimization away from school and suicide attempts; however, the number of participants who were frequently victimized away from school and made an attempt was too small (n = 3) to yield adequate statistical power.”(Brunstein-Klomek, Anat, et al. “Bullying, Depression, and Suicidality in Adolescents.” CUNY Academic Works, 2007, https://academicworks.cuny.edu/cc_pubs/309/.) The study suggests that victimization and bullying in school are potential risk factors for depression and suicide in adolescents, proving that adolescents are more threatened in school than in the home environment. And the way to prevent suicide is not to start with the suicide, but with the school.

School is a major factor that caused teenage suicide because school is a complex mini society. School isn’t only for study, you can see the competition as what we said above, also the relationship, communication, opportunities and so on. ALLAN SCHWARTZ. LCSW, PH.D., is a veteran psychoanalyst; Has been in private practice for over 25 years and is a graduate of NPAP (National Psychoanalytic Association); he had a long experience with therapy for anxiety and depression. Also, he is adept at studying the causes of mental illness. And published many articles for researching human psychology. One of this article is talking about the connection between school and teenage suicide. School as a mini society, stress, competition, bullying and so on. Those are all the factors that ALLAN SCHWARTZ. LCSW, PH.D thinks it affects mental health strongly. the behavior would worsen with these negative emotions. Dating the opposite sex or facing homosexuality can be extremely painful for adolescents who struggle with low self esteem. LCSW, PH.D. “High School and Teen Suicide, a Connection?” MentalHelp.net, https://www.mentalhelp.net/blogs/high-school-and-teen-suicide-a-connection/. ) It reveals that students’ seemingly ordinary campus life actually hides some deadly negative factors. Students not only bear the pressure of study, but also competition, teachers’ expectations, social difficulties and campus violence. The learning environment of a school may play a decisive role in contributing to adolescent suicide. School as a mini society, stress, competition, bullying and so on. You need social skills, you need to be cheerful, you need to hide your true emotions, you need to fit in with the group. there are the roles you are forced to pretend, you can’t be who you really are. You may feel breathless with this mask, and the negative emotions become more and more, one day end up to break out.

Teenage suicide is significantly influenced by school-related stressors, as school environments can contribute to various stressors such as bullying and navigating complex social dynamics. In the body paragraph, it was argued that school-related stressors can significantly contribute to teenage suicide. These stressors include school bullying, which can have a devastating impact on mental health, and the complex social dynamics of schools, which can create a highly pressurized environment for students. This is a serious social problem, the suicide rate is keep increasing and becoming more and more younger.

Part III

What I learned during this research I would say is the affection of the stress and education. Actually this research project wasn’t as boring, I was interested and feel down about the fact that youth suicide. I believe we got the same feeling when we were talking about his topic, that is serious, you don’t even know if it would happen near you. You must find out the reason that you know how to provide, that is the reason I picked this topic for the research. The most difficult part for me is to organize the data and find the reason that most caused youth like themselves, because there is much more pressure that teenagers suffer from what we are though. So, we need to realize how horrible this is. There are many teenagers who even start their life and future, not even enjoying the wonderful and peaceful life then they leave forever. Their parents, who love him the most, can’t even let them stay. We need to think about what is the factor causing that, what is the wrong step in the child’s growth. We have to fix that as soon as possible and try to save more lives.
