Radio Practice Assignment

Summary

Host Intro: We all have that artist that brings back so many nostalgic memories; for Samantha Sollitto, a junior at Baruch College, it is 5 seconds of summer. As the pandemic started to wind down, one of Samantha’s favorite bands came to visit the big apple, and Ashley Kim has the story.

Ambi: The light hum of the vent in Baruch’s Journalism Conference Center.

Track: I am here with Samantha on a gloomy Thursday afternoon in Baruch’s Journalism Conference Center. She was reminiscing about a concert in which she saw her favorite artist this June, the five seconds of summer at a rooftop Pier 17 in Manhattan. Although the concert itself was amazing, she had some comments about everything else such as the venue, the people, and the merch.

Act, Samantha: “ I have been keeping track of them since their biggest hit “She looks so perfect “ in 2013 and finally got to see them this summer. The lines were long and the venue was small considering how famous they are but nonetheless, I was still able to see the band and my favorite member, Michael Clifford.

Track: Samantha also mentions her friends Raja and Emily as she continues to express some annoyance she encountered at the concert,

Act, Samantha: “There was a really tall guy at the front with his phone up and it was so hard to see since he was blocking the view. The concert lasted between an hour and an hour and a half and was a bit upset since they did not play all their songs…. The merch was very expensive considering that they are not as famous as they used to be but I was still glad that I went and saw them in person, it was my first concert as well, and I had so much fun.”

Track: Samantha continues to talk about how meeting them and hearing their music live is such a huge difference from listening to the songs off of a phone.

Act, Samantha: “ Although you know that they are real people and you know they exist, it’s such a surreal experience to actually see them with your own eyes, off of cameras. It was so cool to see them actually smile in person and hear their songs. It also gave me a new perspective that I can be that person on stage.”

Track: Although Samantha experienced screaming security guards and late-night trains to get back home, I can confidently report that she had a good first concert experience. Reporting for Baruch College, Ashley Kim.
