Summary
HOST INTRO: The COVID-19 pandemic has given us all a lot of time to try new hobbies or to spend the hours we have at home practicing our favorite ones, such as playing video games. Mehak Khan speaks to Richard, a Multimedia Reporting student at Baruch who tells us the first video game he’s ever played.
AMBI: Sounds of student chatter
ACT: It was the year 1998. It was Metal Gear Solid for the original Playstation.
TRACK: Balancing hobbies and classes isn’t easy, but Richard still finds time to game even throughout the busy semester.
ACT: When I do play, I always--I play for at least an hour.
TRACK: Richard says that he loves narrative games that have good storytelling elements and are immersive for the player. He tells me a little about his favorite game at the moment, which has mixed reviews for many fans of the game.
ACT: The Last of Us Part 2. It is a sequel to the original game. It’s a story driven narrative game. It’s also very controversial. Without spoiling it, it was from the first game.
TRACK: The Last of Us is an action-adventure game released in 2013 where players control Joel, a grizzled smuggler tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie, across a post-apocalyptic United States. The game has many positive reviews of its emotional storytelling. However, its sequel has been heavily criticized by fans.
ACT: Any fans of the first game didn’t like the story of the sequel.
TRACK: Like many other gamers, Richard livestreams on the platform Twitch. As for his time at Baruch, he aims to graduate soon with a degree in Political Science. For Multimedia Reporting, I am Mehak Khan.
