Summary
Animal shelters across the country have hit a crisis point due to the unprecedented amount of pets being surrendered. With inflation rising in a city well-known for being expensive, New Yorkers have been forced to make the heartbreaking decision of choosing between them or their pets, leaving them behind in places that have long gone over max capacity. It would be interesting to spend a day with the staff and volunteers of one of the shelters to learn about their experience day-to-day as it has been reported they've been working over 60 hours a week and are burnt out, learn some of the animal's stories from before they were taken to the shelter, their conditions they now have to live and how that has affected their behaviour, and if it's possible, perhaps talk to a person that arrived to surrender their pet and ask them what led them to make the decision. It would also be good to know what plans they are working on to relieve the issue.
