HOST INTRO: For college students it may be difficult to find moments to enjoy their hobbies, especially with school being back in person. For Baruch sophomore, Tatiana Brown, she manages to enjoy some of her pastimes. Yadira Gonzalez sits with Brown in the halls of Baruch to find out more.
AMBI: THE SCHOOL HALL NAT SOUNDS
TRACK: Tatiana Brown, a student attending Baruch College, sits in the halls to talk about some of the interests that she’s had throughout her life.
ACT: BROWN: I enjoy reading, learning how to cook, and occasionally drawing.
TRACK: Among the many genres of books, Brown of course has her favorites.
ACT: BROWN: I like to read a lot of fiction, not so much classical literature, but more like modern stuff. Also mystery I’m really a big fan of mystery.
TRACK: Yet, being a full-time student studying journalism has affected what she’s been reading.
ACT: BROWN: I read often, not so much books as of recently. I’ve been reading a lot of news stuff and articles.
TRACK: Drawing was a way for Brown to imagine herself getting away and exploring in the comfort of her own home.
ACT: BROWN: I’m more so a landscape type of person. I enjoy painting since it’s really calming and I can spend however much time just taking time to myself to try to paint a picture of a place that I’ve never been to or a place I want to go. I also like drawing about stuff in urban areas so especially like New York City, there’s so much to see. So, being able to draw landscapes like a busy New York street is just something I enjoy.
TRACK: Drawing has also been a way for Brown to appreciate those small beauties in your everyday neighborhood.
ACT: BROWN: So just like a quiet street where you have the corner street you know very lively areas.
TRACK: And although she enjoys rather solitary activities like reading and drawing, she uses cooking as a way to bond with close friends.
ACT: BROWN: My friend who loves to cook and try different things sends me pictures and tells me different things she wants to try. That’s inspired me to take up cooking especially since I’m getting older so that’s a skill I feel like I should have.
TRACK: Along with learning how to cook for practical reasons, Brown also enjoys cooking for restful purposes.
ACT: BROWN: Cooking usually after class since it’s not too much. I like taking time after class to just unwind and destress before tackling my homework.
TRACK: It can be difficult to make time for your hobbies but for Tatiana Brown making time means having a good read, exploring the city, bonding with friends, and just relaxing. For Baruch College I’m Yadira Gonzalez.
