I chose a few examples that reflect my neighborhood and its demographics. The theme or pattern of my data is “Community and diversity”. The reason I chose this name for my theme is because although it can be considered a large neighborhood it feels as though it is a small community. I have also noticed that some of the images I have taken provide an idea of what the demographics are. Community also plays a large role in the images because it represents much more than just a group of people coming together or living nearby, it represents differences and diversity.
Below I have a few examples:

Culture in Community
These three images show the feel of what Auburndale is like and could give one an idea of what the demographics are as well as an understanding of the community. In the first visual it can be seen that the store is selling classic kimonos, which are derived from Japanese culture. It can be inferred that the store is Japanese run and thus, adding to the demographics of the neighborhood. In the second image we see a simple cafe storefront, it is very little and almost gives a small-town vibe and inspires the idea of community. Finally, in the last photo we see a spa sign marketing its services, and above there is a sign in Chinese lettering. This also shows the demographics of Auburndale.
Some reasons for this pattern of community and diversity are the data I collected and the effect each image gives off. Each one shows either diversity or culture in some aspect. And each image displays the role of community very well, because they are all small businesses which are privately run. Culture in Community is not just the diversity and differences between these businesses, it is the values, languages, food, and customs. Culture is what shapes an environment and the way people interact with one another.
