Jean reminded me today of the likely connection between the new power-saving mode our computers are in and the locked computer problem. If a computer stays idle for long enough, it may be that the machine then locks itself. So this offers another reason to log off any staff computers at the reference desk when your shift ends; if you don’t, those computers logged on under your credentials may become locked if they sit idle for a while leaving whoever is on the desk after you in the position of having to reboot the machine to unlock it.
