Baruch College Wireless Connecting Changes

This is to remind everyone that we will be discontinuing the Baruch-Students wireless network at 6:30 PM on July 14. Thereafter, Baruch students will use the Baruch-WiFi wireless network.

Baruch-WiFi and Baruch-Guest will be the publicly broadcast networks for Baruch College until a third network is deployed later in the summer, offering the option of a longer log-in time and some additional access to internal network resources.

Baruch-WiFi is for the use of all Baruch faculty, staff and students. It has the same access rights as Baruch-Students.

Baruch-Guest is for the use of our guests.
We have two classes of guests.
One class of guests obtains Active Directory guest accounts through the Library and Help Desk, and they will use Baruch-WiFi.

The other class of guests is for special events and they are given accounts through application by the event sponsor. These are not Active Directory accounts, and these are the guests that use Baruch-Guest.

EBSCO Databases and Chrome Browser

Michael Waldman and I have confirmed that Ebsco will support the use of the Google Chrome browser for accessing full-text articles beginning in the Fall, 2011. Here’s the link that tells the tale from Ebsco:

So, users accessing our Ebsco databases to get full-text articles will have some difficulty. Particularly for chat reference assistance, bear this Chrome browser issue in mind.
