NYSE TAQ data unavailable via WRDS
We have lost access to NYSE TAQ data via WRDS platform. It is unclear at this time if we will regain access to the data on this platform.
Access to the data via DVDs is still possible via Prof. Richard Holowczak at the Subnotick Center.
All WRDS services down
WRDS has experienced major disk failure which is affecting all WRDS services. They do not have an estimated time for resolution. They are posting updates on their landing page (which can be reached via the databases page, and choosing WRDS).
WRDS down on March 29, 6am-10am
Please share with your faculty.
WRDS access changes
WRDS has made it easier to access their data.
It is NOT necessary for library-based users to apply for individual accounts.
The new process is as follows:
The user connects to WRDS via the Databases page.
There, s/he will be asked for their Baruch email address; the WRDS system will then immediately send an email to that address, containing a one-day access ticket (actually a customized URL). (Both “Baruchmail” and “Baruch” are working).
Faculty and those working continuously with data will still probably want to create their own account so they don’t have to ask for a one-day pass, but for others this might be enough.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
WRDS for Librarians at SLA
For the first time WRDS offered a session at SLA for college and university librarians and they showed off their new Website and its new interface. Go to http://wrds-web.wharton.upenn.edu and have a look. You will like it.
The best new feature is the Tools tab where you can do a search for any variable across all WRDS databases and find not only which databases to use but also which files to use.
There is also a suite of E-Learning videos that cover each database, downloading and other technical applications, and how to use stat packages like SAS with WRDS files.
WRDS also offers sample programs and research applications where they show how to perform frequently used operations like building portfolios and how to replicate “classic” studies.
WRDS is also planning to add a Librarian category in the WRDS Forums. I use the forums a lot so this should be useful.
WRDS also announced that they hope to offer monthly updates for Compustat soon.
