Innovative Courses in Operations Management

The Zicklin School of Business continuously strives to enhance its curriculum to provide students with the most relevant and market-driven education. We have introduced three innovative courses to the Operations Management major and minor that equip students with essential skills for the modern business environment.

  • Lean and Six Sigma (OPM 3750): This course teaches students how to lead business transformations using the lean operations and Six Sigma management frameworks for improving business processes. It is required in the Operations Management and Consulting track and elective to the Operations Management and Analytics track.

  • Project Management (OPM 3740): Covering the fundamentals of managing projects from traditional methods to modern agile practices, this course is aligned with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). It equips  students with critical thinking skills to contribute to project successes early in their careers and is required in the Operations Management and Consulting track while elective to the Operations Management and Analytics track.

  • Operations Management Consulting (OPM 4551): With faculty and team advisors drawn from the successful consulting capstone in the Zicklin MBA program, this capstone offers students the opportunity to learn the basics of management consulting with an operations focus.  OM is the only BBA major with this unique opportunity.  Students hone their skills in client relations, presentation and communication, critical thinking, leadership, and teamwork, while solving real operations problems. The skills learned in this class are transferable various internal and external management roles. The Operations Management Consulting course is required for Operations Management majors. Students must complete OPM 3500, OPM 3710, and OPM 3730 before enrolling in OPM 4551 (no waivers or exceptions).  Students from other majors who wish to enter the consulting course may use those three prerequisite courses to obtain a minor in Operations Management.
