In the story Dream House as prologue, silence is discussed in the first paragraph. There are many things that happen to people all the time that are never spoken of that should have been heard and the author wants to tell the reader that because it has never been spoken, we could be missing so much. However, I did not understand when the author started discussing queer theory. They said that some things people do not find important enough to preserve but they kept the writing of people who were a part of that community and so, i did not understand how that is a significant tie to the main idea. In the other story, You left Out the Part About, Silence plays a role when a part of a movie is not discussed. To further this point, the author discusses his experience of how he went to see an X-Men movie with his son. Today we are more liberal than we were many years ago however this movie sets us back. He says that the movie displays itself as an “American historical fiction”. The people representing the era were  group of white men. There was so much advancement for certain races, specifically African Americans and, it was portrayed poorly considering the time in which the movie takes place. The silence also takes place in the frame of the story. He went to see this movie with his son and was debating to tell him the way he perceived it but he was 10 so, the author decided to let his son see it as the most thrilling movie. “How do I speak of the sentinels whose eyes melt history, until the world forgets that in 1962, the quintessential mutants of America were black?” They both relate in the fact that they discuss how African Americans lived in the past( 1st paragraph of the first  story) and that was a theme in the second story, and this also made a difference because  in the first story, they discussed other issued such as abuse on women, being apart of the Lgbtq community among other things. I believe that for the first one, it makes the reader really think about the fact that not everyone and everything is heard. There are so many problems that people experience nationwide that no one notices. For the second reading, I personally started thinking about movies that may have a deeper meaning and I would want to pay more attention to the smaller details that would not be easily spotted.
