(Minute 2:20 – 4:59)

I choose this video because I liked how they analyzed existentialism, absurdism, symbols, and allegory in “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka. Especially, I liked how they explain each object in Gregor’s room and connect each item with the live of Gregor. Gregor Samsa is the main character in Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis. He’s a traveling salesman, who wakes up one day to find that he has transformed into an insect. He has a younger sister, Grete, who takes care of him after his metamorphosis. He and Grete live with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samsa.

In the story, Gregor’s life is controlled by his family and work. He never has the time to satisfy his personal happiness because his main focuses are to arrive on time to work, impress his boss, and attempt to get his family out of debt. Even though he is required to travel a lot for his job, he doesn’t actually know much about the world.  Gregor does not have control of his life; his family and work are the ones controlling him. Gregor entirely forgets about his own well-being and focuses on his family’s problems. Instead of going out and experiencing life, he just sits in his room all day staring at the window. In my opinion, being lonely is what make’s Gregor happy, as long as his family is conformable. Instead of going out and have fun, he prefers to just pay close attention to his family problems. Gregor is a slave of his job because even as a bug, Gregor thinks of his job instead of worrying about what he looked like.

As a final point, this story made me realize how important it is to have a social life and interact with others. I think it is crucial to make your family feel comfortable, but not only to focus on your family. It is important to experience the beauty of life because when you die the only thing you are going to take with you is your memories.
