Nicolle Portilla, Zouhare Al-Baroudi, Michael Ruocco
The main argument made in the Fox News article focuses more on how the situation is not common. It is the Media’s portrayal. The interview provides images of the people’s reaction to the crime. The overall purpose is show reactions to the shootings. Their is no directed audience and the interview nonchalantly speaks of the unpleasant reactions. Hearing of shootings is common, in Chicago for example. A lot of attention was brought towards the case in Ferguson because it was a white man. Their are some constraints on the way they speak and it covers all three Aristotelian appeals.
The Democracy Now! article covers an entirely different perspective. It focuses more on how the local police is militarized and could specify to cases of racial profiling. The purpose is to show the reader how the local police handled this situation. The purpose is named towards an audience who opposes the events of the Ferguson case. It is opinion based and less focused on Michael Brown, but more on the power of the local authorities. It appeals to all three of the Aristotelian appeals and uses photos/graphics of the weapons used to describe there abuse of power.
