On Monday, October 7 2013, Barack Obama was reported missing from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation due to the government shutdown. His absence was filled in by Secretary of State, John Kerry, but this was not enough to stop the power shift. The conference, which is usually led by America because of its global influence was led by someone else this time and he was China’s President, Xi Jinping. China became the dominant force of this meeting and this caused America’s influence in the Asia-Pacific region to weaken and China was able to expand its influence to the other regions in Asia.
