The Republican Party admitted defeat to President Obama on Wednesday, October 16. The tumultuous 16-day government shutdown was brought to an end after a rushed compromise between parties, and the passing of legislation that would raise the federal borrowing limit. Not only did the shutdown cause Republican ratings to plunge, it also cost the nation billions and has tarnished the reliability that America so proudly held. The only victory Republicans can claim from the shutdown are the slightly more restrictive income verification rules for those utilizing health insurance provided by the Affordable Care Act. With the shutdown finally at an end, officials announced the federal government was to reopen by October 17.
