Week 4

Summary

It will be difficult from a military perspective because they use applications to spy and destabilize countries. As recently as April 2023, the FBI found a Chinese police station spying above a noodle restaurant in Chinatown and six other locations, including an undisclosed station including in Los Angeles. There is evidence that the Chinese government is expanding its espionage and security operations on U.S. soil. China and Twain have been in conflict for a long time and there have been many controversies about China invading Twain, but it won't happen anytime soon since China has ended its military exercises around Twain and has released a document emphasizing the peaceful reunification of the two countries.

As far as technology is concerned, China has achieved great successes with its advanced computing, as well as counterintelligence and economic espionage efforts that derive from the Chinese Communist Party and the government. These efforts pose a serious and dangerous threat to the U.S economy and democratic value according to the FBI. Therefore, economically, China is doing well, with its national resources of being the world's largest producer of antimony and the third largest producer of iron ore, along with natural graphite, aluminum, steel, rare earths, barite, zinc, and tungsten; and it was one of the largest trading partners of the United States. Moreover, China has played a larger role in Africa, where it has been one of the largest trading partners for a long time.

Makerlie,

While you covered a lot of different subjects in this blog post, I got your overall point. While China’s economic and military power is clearly growing, it still does not match that of the United States. But the US and other Pacific powers, such as Japan, Australia, and India, have realized that they must pay closer attention to what China is doing and be prepared to counter. –Professor Wallerstein
