Leave Hogwarts? Never!

July 13, 2011 by bb-pawprint

As all die-hard Harry Potter fans know, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is coming out in New York, this Friday, at 12 AM. This last movie is not only going to be exciting, but deeply saddening as well, since it will bring the most successful movie franchise to a close. I, being one of those die-hard Harry Potter fans, have been spending this entire week reading up on the Harry Potter books, and though this is a series meant for an audience much younger than myself, I still couldn’t stop turning the pages. The books were of course an easy read for me, and it was a little embarrassing to be seen with it on the train, but I got over the embarrassment quickly.

These Harry Potter books have a way of sucking you into a world full of magic and intrigue. A world that I am quite sure no one has ever experienced before. The adventure that Harry, Ron and Hermoine experience on a daily basis is something that draws me into the series, and I never want it to end. “If only Hogwarts was real,” was something that I have declared a countless number of times, because the world we live in is dreary and mundane when compared to the wizardly world of Harry Potter. Unfortunately, this series will come to its true end this Friday at 12 AM, and people all over the world will have to come to terms with the fact that there will be no more adventure for the magical trio. Or do we? Of course not! Even if J.K. Rowling has decided to put down her pen and close off her life from the world of magic that she invented, doesn’t mean that we have to do the same. There is always Fanfiction!

Fanfiction, for those of you who don’t know, is a fan’s way of continuing the story of their favorite movie, book, anime, or video game, even when the creator of the said movie, book, anime, or video game has finished creating. Many Harry Potter fans not only write about what happens after the “end” of the last book,  but they also fill in the plot holes, write what happens between books, create a 27 chapter story based on one line in the book, or switch up the romantic pairings that Rowling made. With fanfiction, you can do anything. What is so great about Fanfiction is that it is a world almost anyone can enter, and it is a world where almost everything is accepted. You don’t need to be a professional writer to have people read your Fanfiction, because people will comment on your story and give you pointers and suggestions, and you can twist the original story as much as you want. Fanfiction gives writers freedom, which is a good thing for the world of writers and readers. Thanks to Fanfiction, the Harry Potter world does not need to end, which is a good thing for Potter fanatics like me.

And yes, I am aware that I sounded like a complete nerd this entire time.
