“Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still”
– Dorothea Lange
Even though you can’t tell by my facebook pictures, I have always been very passionate about photography. I remember when I was four years old, my mom bought me my first camera. Of course it was just a Polaroid Barbie camera, but I loved it. I took my camera everywhere and took pictures of everything and anything. At that point in time, it was just something fun to do, but as I grew up I began to see the true beauty and art of photography. Even though most of my pictures were posed or of things that I found intriguing, my favorite were those which were unexpected, or “mistakes.” These accidental pictures are the ones that show the true being and beauty of things, and thats why I loved them. I also love how photography can take even the simplest and most ordinary things and make them unique, make them interesting, or make them beautiful.
One of my favorite photographers is Lauren Lepore. She is the person that recently inspired me to begin taking pictures again and rekindle my passion for photography. Whenever I look at her photos I see a story behind it, and I see the purpose. I also love her style of photography, because just like journalists, photographers have their own personal style. She makes her photos look slightly distressed or vintage sometimes, which I find so beautiful. She also is incredible with using the light. I recently saw some images of a photo shoot she did, and the images were taken right before sunset, which I personally find to be my favorite lighting and time of day. I don’t think that I will become a professional photographer, but I will without-a-doubt continue to take pictures and love doing so.
