Social media has become the watchdogs for many aspects of the 2016 U.S. presidential primary race. And because of the Internet’s keen attention to whom will become the next President of the United States, the mainstream public now has the unique task of cataloguing this pop culture examination of the jokes, memes, hashtags and gifs accompanying the races. One of the best memes displayed so far, created by and for Bernie supporters are the “Bernie or Hillary?” memes.

The memes, created by Jeff Wysaski on his Tumblr obviousplant.tumblr.com, place Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton against each other with pop culture prompts leading the fight.

Just like a Democratic debate, the pair fight off in a fictional battle, disputing things like Star Wars, crayons, Harry Potter and a robot uprising.

In the meme, Sanders is viewed as being more knowledgeable in the popular scenarios compared to Clinton. For example, to the right, the politicians speak their first thoughts on Harry Potter. Sanders says he’s a huge fan of the novel and film series while Clinton stumbles in her incorrect knowledge of one of the Hogwarts houses.

Templates for the meme have also been released, encouraging Bernie supporters, Hillary haters, bored millennials and pop culture reporters to make obscure references to different topics such as crayons, Royal Dansk cookies, The X-Files, and website browsers.

These Bernie-favorable memes, despite being a running joke against Clinton, have accurately related to how Sanders is viewed by younger, democratic or liberal voters. He is relatable and the Internet is continuing to improve upon his popularity.
