Who said Smorgasburg was only a summer event?
Though many usually only envision its outdoor incarnation at the mention of the well-known food event, Smorgasburg carries on even during the winter season. From November to March, the 40 food stands and 100 Brooklyn Flea market vendors move indoors for the Winter Market. This year, the weekend market operated out of an old warehouse in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
The winter market’s last weekend saw hoards of vintage and locally made furniture, vintage records, and racks of vintage clothes. While some Smorgasburg attendees sifted through retro prints of Brooklyn and dusty Victorian postcards, others lined up to get a taste of the infamous Ramen Burger, lobster rolls topped with bacon, organic ice cream, and beer and cocktails from the market’s bar, among other delectable treats. As adults shopped and ate on the second floor, kids enjoyed the designated play area on the ground floor.
Smorgasburg was founded in 2011 by Brooklyn Flea founders Eric Demby and Brownstoner founder Jonathan Butler. From April to November, Smorgasburg operates outdoors in Prospect Park and Williamsburg.
Starting April 2 and 3, Smorgasburg will return outdoors, where New Yorkers and tourists alike can enjoy the unique eats and flea finds in sunny outdoor Brooklyn parks, rather than inside an old loft.
