On Valentine’s Day, You’re Never Too Old For Love

In the past, public displays of affection was looked upon as a social faux-pas. As a result of this, people weren’t quite vocal or active when showing off affection towards their partner, whether it be in the form of casual conversations with friends, publicly voicing affection or even trying to steal a kiss while walking down the street.

Today, however, things are drastically different as we can see on a holiday like Valentines Day. Lovers get tattoos of their partner’s names etched on all regions of their body, people spend minutes kissing passionately on street corners and youngsters risk their hearts by writing letters for their loved ones and creating their own special Valentine cards.

And while they say love is for the young, elderly lovelorn folks are also seeking passion and romance via online dating.

According to Pew Research Center, 12% of people, ages 55 to 64, has used an online dating service, and the number of elderly singles using online dating sites has doubled since 2013. This means that one elderly person out of ten is looking into the screen to check on a dating site or app to look for his or her love, just like young adults do.

Use of online dating sites or mobile apps by young adults has nearly tripled since 2013

The same research concluded that about 80% of dating site users are showing agreement to the statement, “Online dating is a good way to meet people.” However, there are accompanying voices of concern for this dating medium, with 45% of those surveyed agreeing that “Online dating is more dangerous than other ways of meeting.” In addition, 30% feel that “Online dating keeps people from settling down.” 16% think “People who use online dating are desperate.”

Those with online dating experience are more likely to have positive attitudes towards dating digitally

Nevertheless, the desire to find a partner to share your life with never goes away. And thanks to this new digital avenue, the elderly are finding out that you are never to old to fall in love.
