Lin-Manuel Miranda
Actor, Playwright, Composer, Rapper, Writer

A child of Puerto Ricans, Miranda is the creator of
the hit Broadway shows In the Heights and Hamilton.
He is a Tony, Emmy, and Grammy-winning individual,
who has found recent success in his work with
the Disney feature film Moana.


Miriam Colon
Founder, Director, Actress

Miriam Colon was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
She entered the acting business in 1953, appearing
in over fifty films and three Broadway productions.
She founded the Puerto Rican Travelling Theater during
the late 1960s, presenting opportunities for  acting Puerto Ricans.


Diosa Costello
Actress, Producer, Entertainer

Known as “the Latina Bombshell,” Diosa Costello
was born in Guayama, Puerto Rico. After performing
in Spanish Harlem for a while, Costello became the
first ever Puerto Rican woman to perform on the Broadway
stage in the 1939 production Too Many Girls.


José Ferrer
Actor, Director

Born in San Juan, Ferrer started his career on Broadway
in 1935. After a successful run on the stage, he
eventually found success on film as well. Ferrer
went on to become the first ever Puerto Rican, as well
as the first Hispanic, to win an Academy Award – which
goes well with all the Tony Awards at his disposal already.


Luis Salgado
Performer, Director, Choreographer

Born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Salgado has worked on
the choreography of many different Broadway shows
and film productions, such as Lin-Manuel Miranda’s
In the Heights and Disney’s Enchanted.


Josie de Guzman
Actress

After appearing in a handful of different Broadway
productions, Guzman found herself with a Tony nomination
for her performance of Maria in the 1980 revival
of West Side Story, and then a second nomination for
her performance in the 1992 revival of Guys and Dolls.


Chita Rivera
Actress, Singer, Dancer

Chita Rivera was born to a Puerto Rican father and
an Italian mother. After accidentally finding herself
on Broadway, she received international fame for
her role on the original 1957 run of West Side Story.
Rivera eventually went on to win two Tony awards.


Raúl Juliá
Actor

Born in San Juan, Juliá moved to New York City
to follow a career in acting. His career boomed
on Broadway, which eventually led to him finding
success on film and television- landing roles in
The Tempest and Sesame Street. Juliá finished
his career with nominations for both Tony awards
and Golden Globes.

Edith Diaz
Actress, Founder

Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Diaz landed roles
on both television and film – appearing in productions
such as Sister Act and The Twilight Zone. Diaz co-founded
the Screen Actor’s Guild’s Ethnic Minorities Committee
in 1972 with another Puerto Rican, Henry Darrow.

Founder, Actor

Darrow appeared in a number of film and television roles
– including becoming the first Latino actor to play “Zorro.”
Darrow also helped Edith Diaz co-found the
Screen Actors Guild’s Ethnic Minorities Committee,
as well as create Nosotros, an adovacy against Hispanic stereotyping.

Nicholas Dante
Actor, Dancer, Writer

Dante won a Tony award for his work
in writing the 1975 hit Broadway smash,
A Chorus Line. He eventually went on
to star in the very same production he
helped create.

Miguel Piñero
Playwright, Actor, Founder

While serving time in prison, Piñero created
a play entitled Short Eyes which received
the attention of the New York Times. Piñero
was granted the opportunity to perform it after
leaving prison. Piñero also helped co-found the
Nuyorican Poets Cafe.

Born in Ponce and raised in The Bronx,
David Zayas found success as a character actor
after having been a NYPD officer for 15 years.
His major successes include roles on hit television
shows such as Dexter, Oz, and Gotham.
