Why?

Puerto Rican theater has strived for decades, with innovators like Diosa Costello and Miriam Colon and famous locations such as the Teatro Puerto Rico and Imperial Theatre. The story of Puerto Ricans is one that must be told, as dance, music, and expression make up our culture.

The purpose of this website is simple: we feel as if society does not know anything about what Puerto Ricans are up to in the theater scene. Puerto Ricans have been around in Broadway for years, and yet majority of people couldn’t name a Puerto Rican actor on the big stage if their name isn’t Lin-Manuel Miranda.

At this point, it might be important to meet the team behind this website, as they tell their story as to why they decided to get behind on El Mundo Del Teatro Puertorriqueno.

THE TEAM

Josue Mendez
Creator, Web Designer, Guide Tour,
Content Writer, Screenwriter

Josue Mendez is a junior at Baruch College,
born to a Puerto Rican family and living
in the Bronx. He is a Corporate Communication
major with a strong interest in theater –
which is exactly what he is majoring in.

And that’s about it for meeting our team!

Josue feels that much can be accomplished through the creation of this website – it can bring awareness to those who are unaware. It can give hope to Puerto Ricans who may feel like there’s nothing for them because of their heritage and culture. Navigating through the world as an immigrant is not easy, but being able to see the progress that many Puerto Ricans have made for newer generations gives hope to not only him but Puerto Ricans all over the country.

If Miriam Colon can make a travelling theater for Puerto Ricans, why can’t a college junior get on the track to creating a Broadway production that can revolutionize the Hispanic immigrant scene as a whole?
