Putting together my first draft for my literacy narrative was challenging. I wasn’t quite sure how I should organize and structure my essay. Without spending too much time on that, I jumped right into writing it like a freestyle writing. My main focus while writing this draft was on the content. What like about writing a literacy narrative is the “story” telling. Although academic writing falls under the formal category, this project itself doesn’t need the language as a regular formal writing piece.
The peer review session helped me more than I would have thought. My partner gave a few constructive criticisms. One of them was on how I can have a better transition from my points so that it can have a smooth flow. Another criticism was on my examples from my the essay on “what is academic writing?” I needed more example so that it can support my points. I also need to pay attention to details and elaborate on them more.
In my first draft, I used only one quote from one of the three essays. After the peer review, my partner pointed out a section of my writing where I can relate to another author’s ideas. I found it a little difficult to relate to the other authors but once I saw it from a different standpoint, I understand how I can relate my point and the author’s point. This peer review helped me strengthen my writing piece by taking into account the responses of an actual and anticipated reader.
“Although academic writing falls under the formal category, this project itself doesn’t need the language as a regular formal writing piece.” Good observation and well-stated!
