  1. The chapter that resonates with me the most is definitely shitty first drafts. Due to high expectations throughout high school and most importantly life I’ve always given myself a difficult time of reaching excellence at all times. I always wanted to be one step ahead of many others and when it came to ELA or writing any piece of literature I always would be high on my word count and thought that was significant. After reading this chapter I learnt that I don’t have to give myself an expectation and that’s what’s beautiful about writing, everybody has their own stepping stone and if you can climb that you can follow through the rest of the steps. Most importantly trusting yourself and giving your rambled thoughts a chance to articulate themselves without pushing the boundary where you set yourself for failure targeting perfection. Moving forward whenever we get any essays due I am able to pull myself together and look back at paragraph one of shitty” first drafts and embody the idea that great ideas come from trial and errors and never from deep thought that is the main cause of stress and anxiety. expectations are boundaries so limiting expectations can be convenient and healthy.

  2. The part of the reading “Shitty First Drafts” that resonates the most with me was how most of the times our first draft is not the best, but it’s important because you create an outline or ideas that you can used and improving by editing. There’s a line on the reading that I really like a lot: “The fist draft is the child draft, where you let it all pour out and then let it romp over all the place…”(line 4,sentence 1). I really like this sentence because I relate to it. The first drafts can be a mess, where there’s a lot grammatical errors and it’s not concise but you don’t have to worry because through process by revising, ask for feedback and making corrections will improve/growth.

  3. The part of the reading where it resonates the most is from the fourth paragraph . Where the author Anne Lambott states “If the kid wants to get into really sentimental , weepy , emotional territory , you let him . Just get it all down on paper because there may be something great in those six crazy pages that you would never have gotten to by more rational , grown-up means.” This sentence resonated with me because when I dedicate myself to writing , I want to be able to share the way that I view my thought and how I feel about a certain situation because there might be others who can relate with me or also have a different aspect . There also may be ideas that might seem like very irrelevant ideas that I may write down about my paper but those irrelevant ideas can become one of the main topics in my writing . For example ,how you express a certain idea, opinion or topic, I feel like in writing there is no right or wrong way to express it . I love how the author said to just get it all down because for me in writing every detail should be valued and incorporated into your writings making sure it all ties back up in the end.

  4. Paragraph 4 resonates with me the most, because for me writing is almost all about being a child, who doesn’t yet know how to oppress their thoughts and feelings, being completely honest as a result. Generally, if one really wants to express oneself in a creative work, one must! dive deep into one’s childhood,
grab his/her yet real self and let him talk.

While reading the shitty first drafts, the first thing that came into my mind was
Gustav Flaubert writing the letters to his friends while working on the Madame Bovary. All we see and feel while reading this book is the highest levels of both elegancy and deepness, with the bloody madness behind the scenes in the process of writing.

  5. Most of the reading from “Shitty First Drafts” resonates with me the most. Before I used to make my first drafts amazing and put all my effort into that one particular essay, but after reading the essay I think the opposite now of my first drafts. Now my first drafts will be mostly brainstorming ideas onto paper and from there I’ll separate and organize what goes where just to have a clear viewpoint of my mindset. The fourth paragraph really associates with me in “Shitty First Draft ” since I’m just pouring out all my ideas in one place and working my way through. Breaking down procrastination as well resonates with me since I love to procrastinate until the last minute, so after taking notes on the strategies on breaking down procrastination I find myself taking accountability of those tips as planning my thinking process out and taking it step by step. Another section from “Shitty First Draft” that associates with me is the ending of the seventh paragraph since I’m the type of person who is likely to continuously write and get off topic so easily and sometimes I would proofread it at the spot and sometimes I would just leave it alone, but at times I would look over it and find myself looking at one huge paragraph and spacing or organizing the paragraph neatly.

  6. I tend to over think a lot. This would get me into trouble sometimes. There are times when I stress because I tend to think of something too much when the answer could be simple .While I was in high school I really started working on my writing on a deeper level but I would always have trouble starting. My teachers have always told me that I’m a good writer but had trouble believing it because I would overthink the assignment and that would result in making it more difficult for myself. I wanted to have a good first draft because I thought that this meant that I have less to revise and I’m headed in the right path. I started noticing how trying to write a perfect first draft would take up too much of my time. Today in class I learned that it is okay to have a first shitty draft. This is where ideas grow and its sort of like a thinking process. I feel more confident about starting my paper and the article we read in class “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott from Bird by Bird stated that the first draft is like “the child’s draft, where you let it all pour out and then let it romp all over the place”. This draft will have many mistakes and you are basically collecting your ideas on a paper. The best ideas come from a shitty first draft. This inspired me to be open and allow myself make mistakes on paper that can easily be fixed later. This is the part that resonates with me the most because not only in writing but in life you are never going to get something the first time around and even if you think you are finished or have mastered a skill I feel like there is always ways to learn more. This will guide me in college when I am stuck or feel like my writing isn’t good enough. I will just have to do it again and again until I finally get it.

  7. The part of the reading that resonated with me is what a cultural capital is. The fact that writer use that to relate to people from different communities. It also help me realize that this skill is very useful for many famous authors. That this could also used in movies to help people enjoin it better . Movies that made in one countries is later changed to get people other countries attention they can view it . Something also that resonated with is the importance’s of a first draft. Writer use it as a way to get all their ideas and emotion on to a page . sometimes they have no idea where it going to lead to . Sometimes these first can be more then five to seven pages depending on what they writing about . After leaving it for a day they come back to fish out the good idea that they have in the long mess of the first draft. This normal lead to good stories form these first draft like harry potter or Percy Jackson. These stories are most liked all over the world that. Something else that resonate is how writing process is being seen by other people. many people see the first draft the get everything down page. Then second draft is the place get all good points from the first draft goes. Third draft is the more health version of both first and second draft.

  8. In today lesson the thing that speak with me the most is the section of the reading that speaks of working under pressure because as a person who has done this before it helped me better realize that every time I would work to finish my writing quicker it would just lead to my work to not be up to standards. So it helped me realize that taking my time on my work would create a better piece of writing. Another part that truly spoke to me is when we read about shitty first drafts and how they are mean’t to be used as a way to express all thought and not mean’t to be perfect but to be used to make a better writing piece. It speaks of how that first draft is truly meant to be used as a term to find the true meaning of what you’re writing is and what you’re truly trying to convey to your audience.

  9. Writing is difficult. We use various tips and tricks to make it easier. One way
we do it by using a writing style that works for us. Today in class, we talked about many writing styles that could be useful. For example, make the writing person to the reader easier for them to understand. In other words, make it should like you are speaking to them. But of course, this writing style is not practical all the time. That brings us to the following writing style we have discussed today; know what you are writing about. It is highly recommended that one should have experience/knowledge of the topic he or she is writing about.
After the break, the class got in a circle and read the article “Shitty First Drafts” as a whole. The report states the importance of breaking down your writing: “writing is a process.” I liked the 4th paragraph, which noted that the first draft is a child draft. I liked it because it shows that your writing will grow like a child’s.

  10. The part that resonates with me the most is the part were I think of a sentence and it not good then I just cross it out and think a better sentence. Also it very hard to start the first sentence and I struggle the most so I use a lot of time just to think how to start the essay. Another part that resonates with me the most is having a bad death is good but I usually to the draft as my final and think it may be not good and not having a strong ideas and support thing in the essay. Also it take time and rushing it can make the essay a bit sloppy and not able to understand the idea or message that the writer trying to sent. Having this many draft can add more experience and more emotion in the essay. Having a lot of emotion can give the reader ideas of what the author is sending to them or the character of the story is trying to sent. Another thing that resonate me the most is the part that taking a deep breath and think what to write and having an moments that ca break the person while writing the draft. People have different way of writing and people struggle on different part. Some may feel enthusiastic and confident and some may feel depress and not having a lot of confident. Also that people have different ways to write and some people give food review.

  11. We learn that writing is a process, and it is something that takes time and practice. Sometimes it takes someone to write multiple shitty drafts before it becomes a complete and amazing book or essay that is published for us to read which we sometimes love. I can relate to the writer in that I am not a great writer so writing has never been easy for me so by doing rough draft first helps me a lot. I am not able to write or get across an argument without jotting down a few points first. A new term I learned today is cultural capital. When a writer has cultural capital, they know and or are familiar with the specific style of writing a certain group uses, therefore giving themselves power to gain access to that group. Another advantage of cultural capital along with being a good writer is that you are also now able to communicate more to a group with their style of writing by saying more using fewer words.

  12. During today’s class the reading and questions resonate with me the most because I feel like it is talking about what I did wrong in some way and things that I could do better in the future. The reading about the shitty first draft can be the example on how I should start to write. The idea of having drafts can really help with the writing with adding details or trying to make the sentences better. For example, it says that good writers don’t know what they are writing after they are done with it, meaning that writing details or notes and putting them together can become something. The reading gave me a good understanding that people with good writing don’t just write one paper on it but have many drafts about it. How the reading says the first draft is a child draft meaning that it’s mostly just for you. Any ideas and notes can be in the first draft. As well as sometimes in writing you have to take a few breaks because sometimes the idea you want won’t come up and giving the break can give the brain a time to relax. Letting new ideas flow. The reading encourages me to put down any notes and try to let it make sense.

  13. During today’s class the reading that resonate with me the most is the part that is talking about every goo writing start with a terrible first draft, and then it’ll get better. Therefore, the first draft is like the process you have to go through to get a good result, which is what author mentioned in the essay. Today we had also talk about the belief that is kind problematic. For example like, get better grades when I write papers the night before, which I don’t agree with because I had try it and did not get a good grad, and that day I start it three hours before deadline, which I know it crazy. Also, work better under pressure which might work sometimes but not always, which does not apply to me because I’m won’t work under pressure. For example, when I was in high schools I was in handball team and was always better when I’m practicing, it hard for me to play like when I was practicing in the tournament.

  14. In order to get that perfect paper, you need to do all the steps to get there. You are going to have to go through a process to get your final piece. Your first draft is your most important draft and it is where you put all your thoughts out on the doc/paper without thinking about grammar or anything. The revising and editing comes after that. This is why it is important to take your time and not procrastinate until the last minute because you wont be able to show your full potential in your writing. I have a bad habit where I wait to last minute and write my assignment the night before basically submitting my one and only draft which always stressed me out. What resonated me the most from the readings of todays lessons was where the author says you end up depending on the feeling of adrenaline when you procrastinate. After that she says how it affects you in the future and your job it made me realize how bad procrastination is. I agree what she is saying because from personal experiences I can now only get stuff done when its done last minute and when you rush something its never going to be your best work. From now on I’ll try to procrastinate less and not skip any step of the writing process.

  15. During today class I learned that there is a a lot of steps made in order to complete a well done essay. But before that there is many struggles like procrastination and the usually excuse of being tried and lazy. We learned that in order to over come that we should start our first time draft by writing random things about the topic on a piece of looseleaf paper. This will help build a draft for the final paper. The draft will be built with exactly sentences, no more brainstorming ideas. Ounce you have completed the draft, people normal share they paper to teachers to correct errors or run on sentences made. Then the final paper should be shine just like peoples teeth. Overall we learned that completing a well done essay requires many steps. Also don’t get lazy because it will make your essay weak.

  16. Today in the class, things that resonates me is about the rhetorical where people having different personality, just like the essay or the writing that we have. When we write, the writing that we are writing is like the person, it has it’s own characteristics, there must be a things that presenting you as the writer. Everyone is writing in a different format. Even thought there will have same circumstances and requirement but the essay will have writer’s habits. In order to write a good essay, you need to have multiple draft where you can read and revise over and over again, each draft will have their meaning. For example, draft 1 will be messy and the idea will not be perfect but with draft 1 will contain the main idea/topics and most of the information that you have in your mind during that time. Second draft will help you read over what you wrote and you can add on to your idea to make it more clear with explanation and you can put them in a right order. The third draft will help you check your error and correct it for example spelling error, formatting error, and grammar error. You can read and correct it, meanwhile you can also check if your essay make sense or not. The common error that I have in my previous writing is the analysis where I keep mess it up, and the Link. I can’t make my evidence analysis and I still don’t understand how to write analysis. I always though that I had analysis my evidence in the draft but it’s always missing. When these error happen you can ask for help. This is what discourse communities is, where when you need help, you ask the people in your community to help to reach to your final writing. They can help you check what you missing and give you advise to help you reach your goal. Time management is really important because you need time to write and expend your writing so you can revise your writing. If you write at the last minutes you won’t have time to check and make your writing better and under the stress time, it will make you mess up something. While you write, you aren’t able to know your error until you take time and read over and over again.

  17. During the class, we learning writing is a difficult thing, and it takes time for you to revise and practice. The draft is for us, any ideas can be written on the first draft. Writing a first draft, whatever it is, as long as it is your ideas, you can write it down. Then, we can revise in the second draft, fix up the wrong word, connect each ideas. writing is related the circumstances, but different rhetorical situations for writing requirements. Different circumstances can have different “Academic style”. Writing is a process, we need to spend time in the writing to make better.

  18. Today’s lesson taught me the importance of writing a first draft. The first draft is a practice used to assist writers in brainstorming and jotting down ideas. It’s where writers jot down all their thoughts and don’t worry about making mistakes. The purpose of a first draft is to help writers in the process of writing, it is not about the product or quality of the writing. The first draft can then help writers, later on, they can use the writing to improve along the way, and their final draft will be perfect. The reading also spoke about the struggles that went into writing, the author described them crossing out their ideas and having to come up with new ones. I always believed I was a bad writer because I could never jot all my ideas down the second I had a pencil in my hand. But according to the reading, this is just one of the writers’ many struggles.

  19. The chapter that resonates with me the most is shitty first drafts. This chapter talks about a great strategy when writing papers, and that’s by writing a shitty draft, literally. Allow it to be messy and make no sense to anyone but you. You’ll be able to revise it yourself after, making all the changes necessary and even new ideas might emerge from it. This is way better than revising every sentence after typing it to the point where you get frustrated and exit out. I learned today class that procastating is a big no no. Although it may seem tempting because you either “think better under pressure” or “I get better grades the night”. before”

  20. The part of the reading the resonated with me the most is in paragraph five where Lamott would write something and then cross it out again because I would also do that because I feel like the way I would write would be unclear to the reader. The feeling of doubts come from thinking about how to phrase sentences when I write. Another part that resonated with me is people seeing the first draft because I fear showing people my work and being able to see their reaction.
When I was reading the essay, I was thinking how I could incorporate this process into my writing in the future so the process won’t be as slow and painful. This is since it’s breaking out of the unnecessary need for perfection on the first try because there will be a process to make the writing better. It would also feel less daunting to look at a blank page because this process will fill the page a lot quicker since it’s writing without doubt of how it will be perceived. This process of writing though would require a new mindset in writing because you have to trust the process of having something that is imperfect.

  21. In today’s lesson, we read “Shitty First Draft by Anne Lamott. The reading taught me the importance of jotting down all your ideas and thoughts for your first draft. The first few words of a first draft are not easy to write but once you get the foundation you just keep writing and expressing your idea. The purpose of a draft is to express all your thoughts and let your ideas flow out of your mind. The second draft is where you organize your ideas into paragraphs.

  22. According to “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott, writing a first draft is more about the process. When you are writing a paper, you have many things to do or worry before you actually writes it. You have to think about all the details from top to bottom and you might not want to miss any idea in your writing. Now it comes to the idea of shitty first draft. Even though your first draft could be broken or a mess but it is very important to have one. Just like how the author said in paragraph one, “ now, practically even better news than of short assignments is the idea of shitty first drafts. All good writers write them. This is how they end up with good second drafts and terrific third drafts”. What this means is that a good writer always writes their drafts over and over again until it meets to the word perfect. I like how they said no one writes elegant first draft which is true because this give those who is bad at writing an opportunity to be successful. Therefore, everything is about process where you have to put in effort and time to make your writing more and more perfect.

  23. Today in class we talked about different articles and discussed how we should be writing essays, we also discussed the importance of doing it step by step. After that we had to read a very intersting article name “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott from Bird by Bird. It made me think of writing a little more differently. Especially this line from the article “Almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts. You need to start somewhere. Start by getting something– anything– down on paper.” This line really stuck to me because I can really use this on my next writing piece. I always want to brain storm perfect ideas before I even I start writing anything but that always made me waste so many time on the brainstorming than the actual writing itself. But after reading this article I’m more confident on my writing my next piece.

  24. During today’s class, We read “Shitty First Drafts Anne Lamott from Bird by Bird” . One of the sentences that resonates with me the most is “Almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts.” Because not everyone is perfect at writing essays and some people are struggling to write different types of essays when the teacher wants them to write whatever they ask for. When people write the first draft they are not that good and they try to build up their ideas and write better sentences. The reading gave me a good understanding that people with good writers starting with the first draft can have any ideas and notes. People like to take a few breaks because their brain needs to relax and over brains stone their ideas. They letting their new ideas flow to able to write better sentences.

  25. The part of the reading that really resonated with me was the chapter “shitty first draft” because before I used to think that I have to put all my effort into my first draft. I would normally be stuck in the first sentence without knowing how to start my essay. I would stress myself out trying to come up with a coherent idea, losing a lot of time and not advancing at all in the process. The shitty first draft chapter really explains well what a writer in my situation should do. It reminds me of how I would go to English tutoring after school and how I started to sit with my English teacher with a blank paper and start writing any idea that came through my mind. I started to learn that the best way to write an essay is to, first, write all the ideas you have in your mind and then pick the ones you like the most. Writing a shitty first draft allows you to really input the thought you want into the essay. It allows you to express freely what you are thinking without anyone criticizing what you are writing. Doing a shitty first draft is a tactic that all writers should try if they want to try to improve their writing and feel better about the end product they produce.

  26. The part of the reading where it resonates the most is how to be a good writer. For me personally, I struggle with writing the first sentence or how to start my essay. This may relate to some people who write drafts because they want to grab the reader’s attention. We all in our lives make mistakes when writing about a topic. This may include grammar and spelling mistakes. But, this doesn’t change the fact they can revise their essay for a better result. When I start to write the first draft, I tend to run out of ideas on what to write. This results in bad writing habits. Once my essay is done, I give it to my teacher to check my first draft to make better edits. After reading this chapter, I learned writing takes time and passion to improve. The first draft should be your starting point and the final draft should be the end point.

  27. Taking breaks is essential in writing and reviewing work multiple times allows you to refine your thoughts and the way in which you express them.
I feel related to the development, the process the author was talking about, I like it, and in my opinion, it works. When I write I just put all the information I have on that moment, after a while of writing, I take a break from it and later on I return with a fresh renewed mindset to fix or delete all I don’t like about it and take ideas from it. These steps make you suffer less while you’re writing. Taking breaks is essential in writing and reviewing work multiple times allows you to refine your thoughts and the way in which you express them to your audience.

I don’t believe in the idea of “working better under pressure,” that’s stressful, in my opinion, some kind of people work well under pressure but I don’t believe in “better.”
People who could be considered to be able to work “well” or in this case “better” under pressure are persons or writers who tend to procrastinate their duties, as a firm timeline would always make sure they are working on pace. For regular writers, this can cause way too much stress and affect the work if the pressure is constant.
