Support for Gay Marriage Growing, but U.S. Remains Divided
According to a Pew poll conducted in October 2012, 49 percent of respondents were in favor of the same-sex marriage and 40 percent were opposed. Compared to the poll conducted in August 2008, which showed 39 percent approved same-sex marriage and 52 percent disapproved it, it was clear that people’s opinion about the same-sex marriage had turned to more liberal.
And more people tended to say they were personally opposed to same-sex marriage rather than say it should be illegal.
The increasing support for same-sex marriage appeared among all the groups including Hispanics, Blacks, Whites, and Latinos.
Although there were more people who inclined to approve same-sex marriage, there still were big amount of people opposing it.
