Blog 1 Prompt: Introduction to You and Your Course
Before the first Core Session, you’ll need to create and publish your first Blogs@Baruch blog post as Session Prep work. Head here to review the Blog 1 prompt (opens in a separate tab).
The website you’re viewing this page on now—our “Seminar Course Site”—is hosted on Blogs@Baruch, a locally hosted webspace that uses the WordPress website building platform.
You’ll be expected to use Blogs@Baruch to access seminar information and materials, post your session prep work and artifact drafts, and respond to your colleagues’ posts. If you’re already familiar with B@B, this will be a review. If you’re using these platforms for the first time or need a refresher, we have included intro workshop sessions in our programming, or you can reach out to schedule a 30min one-on-one intro session using our appointment portal here.
First, Log in and Check Your B@B Profile
- Login to blogs.baruch.cuny.edu.
- Click on “My Profile” and then “Edit.”
- Double check that the Display Name is the name you want to display.
- Optional: Add some writing to your “Academic Interests” section that discusses your field, teaching, or other work. Save any changes.
- Optional: add a Profile Photo (click “Change Profile Photo” and follow the instructions).
How to Create a Post
- After you’ve signed in to Blogs@Baruch, click on “My Sites.”
- Click on the site title (“Fall 2021 Student Engagement Seminar”) to enter the site.
- Hover your cursor over the “+ New” and select Post.
- Write your Post in the content area, add a Title, and use “blocks” to add other media like images or videos. For more about using “blocks” and the “block editor,” see the video below.
- Along the right side, under “Category,”, check the category that corresponds to the post assignment. That way, it will post in the space we’ve planned for it on the site.
For more information about building a WordPress post on its “block editor” and adding elements to it, check out this video introduction to posting:
Commenting
Sometimes our materials will include prompts to leave a Comment on a page, and you can do so at the bottom of the page before moving on. You need to be signed in to Blogs@Baruch in order to leave a Comment.
