Learning Goals for Core Session 3 Prep

  • Provide a draft of your revised teaching artifact
  • Articulate your process of creating the teaching artifact and the learning outcomes of your experience
  • Continue to connect with your peer group via posts and comments
  • Consider assessment models as they relate to your teaching approach

1. Post Blog 3: “Teaching Artifact Draft and Reflection Letter”

This week, you’ll be posting a draft of your revised artifact with a cover letter above it that provides it more context and reflection. We’ll be asking you to reflect similarly in this week’s Vlog 3 post.

Post Blog 3 to the Seminar Blogs@Baruch course site under the category “Blog 3: Teaching Artifact Draft and Reflection Letter.”

First, building upon your previous two posts, write an open letter of at least 150 words to your fellow seminar participants that describes your process of revamping materials during our Fall 2021 Engagement Seminar.

  • What was it? What is it now? What changed? What’s left to do?
  • How does it facilitate student engagement?
  • How has the seminar influenced your decision making process for revising your artifact?
  • Are there any lingering questions or concerns you want to return to?

Underneath your letter, add a work-in-progress draft of the revised artifact. If it’s text-based, we recommend that you paste your content directly into your post. If your material cannot be pasted as text into the post (because it’s an image, equations and/or charts, etc.), you can add them using “Image,” “File,” or other “blocks” as appropriate. You can also link to it, if it’s on a course site or already online somewhere. For more information on using the block editor and adding media, review the Blogs@Baruch page in the Getting Started module.

Before our next Core Session 3 meeting, please go back and leave comments on your peer group members’ posts to say hello and add a thought about their letter. Scroll down on the Seminar Blog cover page for a direct link to each peer groups’ posts as a set.

This activity is essential as prep for Core Session 3, as it will lead into synchronous peer review.

For instructions on how to post your blog to our seminar site, review the Blogs@Baruch page in the Getting Started module.

2. Post Vlog 3: “Teaching Artifact: Behind the Scenes”

Post Vlog 3 on the Fall 21 Student Engagement Seminar Vocat page.

In your final post to Vocat, reflect on your Teaching Artifact revision process. Talk about the artifact under development, what’s influenced you in the process of redesigning it, and how it works now.

Please keep it to under 3 minutes. Low-key and low-tech is fine! Screen-share is encouraged but definitely not required.

For instructions on how to post your vlog to our Vocat site, review the Vocat page in the Getting Started module.

3. Considering Student Engagement in Your Assessment Approach

What should I read?

Please read this article, “Assessment in Online Classrooms”. (~6 minute read).

What is my task?

Follow up on the questions and provocations presented in the article as they apply to your own teaching context by completing the “Assessment Reading and Reflection Form“. (The link takes you to a Google Form which should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.)

Reminders

  • One appointment with a CTL staff member is a required part of the seminar. Please use our appointment system to schedule an appointment between now and the Teaching Artifact final deadline on January 21.
