This screenshot of the youtube.com adaptation of The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde by Orson Welles & Bing Crosby – The Happy Prince (1946) really stands out. It shows the Swallow flourishing the city with the gold leaves from The Happy Prince. I’ve read this story over and over again, but this image is more than the story is told. In this screenshot, the little Swallow seems to be larger than life. This was not a mistake. Although swallows aren’t large, they cover most of the world. The artist is trying to show that size does not matter, how you use your other strengths does. The Swallow single handedly flew all over town, helping the poor and the weak, while the mayor was more concerned about wasting money on a statue of himself. Selflessness goes a long way and touches many people. This image shows, no matter how small, you are bigger than the world if you give a helping hand.
