Why technology matters in the Classroom.

Technology in the Classroom

Technology has come a very long way in the last decade. From very slim flip phones to hybrid vehicles becoming more and more abundant in the automotive market to touch screen technology becoming the norm in a society where the first household computer was sold only a few decades earlier. [1].  The education system has introduced computers, projectors, and smart boards in order to help teachers/professors teach better and help students learn better. However, it’s 2015, yet most classrooms in the US do not have the updated technology to replace outdated or very heavy textbooks. Textbooks are essential to a students’ education however many textbooks are heavy and a burden to carry around. These textbooks can cause some serious medical issues for those that are carrying them. Carrying heavy textbooks, especially for children, can lead to serious injury such as stress fractures in the back, inflammation of growth cartilage, back and neck strain, and nerve damage in both the shoulders and neck.[2]. It’s time we as a society that have advanced technology to utilize electronic textbooks or E-Textbooks for short. These E-textbooks can help curb the growing epidemic of students suffering serious body damage. SmartDesks help eliminate the need for textbooks by allowing E-textbooks to be downloaded and accessed to our interchangeable tablets. Not only will students have access to the textbooks they need in order to succeed in the classroom, they’ll also be comfortable knowing that the textbooks they need are saved onto their school I.D cards and can be easily accessed with just a swipe into their SmartDesk tablets.
