Reflection: What I Learned from My Spring Forward Project
By Subrota Shill
Working on my Spring Forward Project was a valuable and rewarding experience. This was the first time I created something like this, and it truly helped prepare me for what a real internship might be like. The entire process from updating my resume to building my own personal website allowed me to express myself creatively and reflect on the journey I’ve taken so far. One of the most exciting parts was designing my page on the Baruch Blogs. It was fun to build something of my own that represents who I am.
Before this project, my resume was more of a list of clubs I joined and jobs I held. Now, I’ve learned how to explain what I actually do in these roles. I included details about helping students at the library, working in a busy noodle shop, and being an active member of clubs like ALPFA, UMLA, and the Wall Street Club. I also added specific accomplishments such as leading team projects, improving communication skills, and supporting others which help paint a fuller picture of my experiences and strengths.
Writing my cover letter was another big learning moment. I used it to share with the Spring Forward team who I am, not just on paper but as a person. I explained that while I haven’t had a paid internship yet, I work hard, do well academically, and love to learn new things. I talked about my involvement in creating social media content for my club, like TikTok videos, and how that shows both creativity and teamwork. I revised my letter several times to make sure it was honest and personal, and that it gave them a true sense of who I am.
The part of the project I enjoyed most was building my personal blog. I named the site, wrote a biography, and uploaded all of my materials. I learned how to organize everything visually using blocks and layouts, which made it feel like I was telling my story in a fun and engaging way. It gave me confidence to see all my work come together in one place something I could proudly show to others.
More than anything, this project helped me see how all the different pieces my resume, my cover letter, and my website connect to form a professional story. It taught me how to talk about myself with more confidence, which was something I used to struggle with. Now I feel more comfortable expressing my goals and experiences, whether on paper or in conversation.
Overall, the Spring Forward Project gave me a strong foundation for applying to internships not just this one, but many others in the future. It helped me become more confident, more prepared, and more proud of what I’ve accomplished so far. I truly hope I’m selected for the Spring Forward program, because I’m ready to grow, learn, and take the next step in my career journey.
