Don Quixote

Don Quixote is a knight right out of a fantasy story. The heroic feats of killing monsters is not actually real. The story is about and idle nobleman who is fascinated with the books full of knights and heroism. In fact he is so fascinated with these books that he acts them out. He is regarded as a lunatic by the towns people. The idealism in the book is far from real and actually all fake. He never even has a relationship with the girl, or ‘his girl’ in his adventures, yet uses her as an ideal image. The knight that Don Quixote hopes to be, and believes he is, is quite different from his clumsy self. In essence the book is creative and has been known to inspire other forms or art including some present day media forms, alongside political revolutions and culture. His message of creativity making us who we are is revolutionary. Not only because of everything it inspires but because it is used as second nature in many media, entertainment, and writing fields. Creativity and individualism go hand in hand and Miguel de Cervantes does an excellent job of portraying that.

This video does a very good job of summarizing the book. The scenes depicted are very interesting and follow sort of in a cinematic way. The cinematic way in my view is a second scope to view literature after reading it. This video not only depicted scenes in the book but talked about the authors life too. The interesting part is that this story wasn’t a result of a lifetime of thinking, but rather a feeling of wanting something different from the books of the time—it, in fact, embodies its message of creativity and individualism. Furthermore the video shows how Miguel died alone and rich only in fame as he sold the rights of his book for very little, however his impact on the world from a literature and a creative standpoint was rich in content and influential power.
