So many young people say they want to live in New York. I completely understand that. I happened to come to New York four years ago. Before that I used to live in small towns of Texas and Maryland. For me the travel to “Big Apple” was just fun at first. However, when my trip was over, I could not leave.
There are so many words said about New York. Who would ever have thought, that this piece of land, bought for 24 dollars from Native Americans long time ago, would become the “Capital of the World”. Obviously, this city has a lot of benefits, but at the same time living here requires people to sacrifice something. I understand that life is life, and we have to work to get what we want. New York, to my opinion, is the city of those ambitious place hunters, of people who never stop looking for something better in life. There is no any other city in the world with so many opportunities like in New York. If somebody really wants to rise to the top, this city has everything for that. As E. B. White says, one has to be willing to “be lucky” to live in New York.
However, for all these benefits you literally have to pay, because, compare to the small towns, the cost of life in New York is enormous. Also after living in quite places, the hectic pace of life, crowd, and noise of New York can discourage anybody. Here you do not feel time. I heard so many stories about people, chasing their dreams, who realized only at the end that they put the whole life for those reveries. So sometimes we have to make a choice here, what is more important, the endless pursuit of ideals and struggle or enjoyment of quite life.
Another point about New York is its weather, which is unpredictable. Though there is the largest transport system in the US, everything can easily stop functioning after prolonged snowfall.
I always admire New York, because I am sure it does not have analogs in the world. However, in the future I prefer only to work in New York, and live somewhere out of the city, where I could relax and enjoy the silence.
