Lately, there seems to be only a few things on my mind when I usually am a cluttered thinker. Those few things are school/graduation (I’m two semesters away from graduating), helping my family, and success – looking for a good, well-paid career that I can find security and happiness. This brought me to thinking that first, it’s great I’m at a renown business school such as Baruch. [side note: I am a Finance major] Second, it’s even greater that I’m in New York City.
New York is known for a lot of it’s “mainstream” features like music, the shopping, the sports, the entertainment, etc. Have we ever stopped to think that it’s also the place to be for the opportunities it promises? I feel that here in New York the possibilities are surely endless. There is a reason why there’s that saying about New York, “if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.” New York is place for people to dream, chase that dream, and ultimately make that dream become reality. Kazin knew this, and that’s why he ultimately wanted to make it to Manhattan too. I think we as students, residents of N.Y., people in general, take that for granted. No matter what your particular interest is, there’s something for everyone in New York.
Personally, I think I’m on my way. I’ve done a handful of internships and feel I’m truly prepared for whatever the “real world” has in store for me. I would love to land a career post graduation at one of the places I had the opportunity of interning for but, if possible, I’d like to land a career at a place that some of my most favorite movies were placed in, Wall Street. There’s just something about Wall Street that bleeds “SUCCESS.” It reeks of money, satisfaction and even if it’s been a long stressful day, its for certain that, once you’ve gotten home and taken a look around of all the stuff you were able to obtain thanks to all your hard work, you’ll know you’ve made it.
I know I’m going to make it.
Why?
Because I’m a New Yorker.
