Change in my neighborhood

After reading Alfred Kenzins, “A walker in the City”, we were asked if we could relate to the story and I responded “no.” However, after I got home that day, I realized I could relate to Kenzin after all. My neighborhood has gone through so many changes just like how Kenzin mentioned all the changes in his neighborhood. I moved to Lake Ronkonkoma about 10 years ago and it was not what it was today. Rewind back and all you will see is 8 houses on my street and the rest of the block covered with trees. If you saw my neighborhood you would think I lived in a jungle. My house alone was surrounded by four or five trees making it a hazard for our cars. I recall one time during a storm, one of the branches from a nearby tree fell on top of my dads car, completely crushing it.

After 2 or 3 years living in my neighborhood, is when I saw change. The county decided to build new houses since there was so much available houses. They tore down a lot of the surrounding trees that could of been hazardous and built beautiful homes. With new houses came new neighbors. Before, most of my neighbors were old couples who have been living there for many years, even before I was born. However, after the houses were built, the neighborhood started to fill up with young couples who are trying to start a family. They found my neighborhood to be a perfect place to raise their children and see their family grow. Also, another change was the park they built at the end of our block. Before the park was built, the area was just a huge field of weeds and shrubs. The county decided to turn this field into a beautiful park.  Even though they were not too many changes, even the smallest changes can make the biggest impacts.
