Until I began my college life, the only New York I knew was Queens. I grew up in a quiet neighborhood in Spring Field, Queens. This is where I attended school from grades 4-12. My closest friends all live in the same area as me. Whenever we went out, it was always somewhere in Queens. When I started to go to Baruch, the city seemed like a whole different world. I never saw so many different types of people. Until I started taking the subway to the city, I never saw a crazy person before. The thing I enjoy most about the city is the variety of foods. I love finding new spaghetti restaurants. There are so many famous restaurants, food carts, and other spots that people who are new to the city go to. Alfred Kazin’s essay about his old nighborhood made me appreciate home. However much new and exciting the city seems, my neighborhood will always be my favorite place. It is where I’m most comfortable and where I feel safe and secure.
