Thursday evening I made flight out to Forth Worth, TX which is right outside of Dallas, TX. I have family, like my cousins, and some friends who live there and decided to pay them a visit from Thursday night till Saturday night. I love traveling so these small flights are fun to me while others find it to be a hassle. During my flight I usually listen to music or end up falling asleep as I read a book. However, this time around I did neither. I spent my time contemplating about how different Dallas Fort Worth is from New York City.
I was able to come up with countless amounts of differences for both places. Both having their own individual strengths and weaknesses. Just to name a few, New York is the “Mecca” of both basketball and hip-hop music. Some would even argue it’s the best in both categories. I also came up with New York being one, if not the, most powerful Financial Metropolis in the world. Lastly, I was quick to recognize the history New York has along with it’s undefined and diversified culture as it separates itself from the rest of the country.
On the other hand, there is one major difference that really strikes me when talking about Dallas Fort Worth. It is one of the cleanest places you’ll ever visit and has one of the best traffic and road construction I’ve ever seen. Let me be more clear; every highway in Dallas has 4-6 lanes minimum, there is sometimes an express pass-way that rides above these 4-6 lanes for all major exits. I have never once encountered traffic while in Dallas. In fact, it’s quite humorous what they find to be traffic we would consider as “well moving traffic.” My next major difference was the cleanliness. Dallas has sanitation trucks that act as a “vacuum” as well as performing the functions that our sanitation trucks do here. Now, it really strikes as to why our renown city of New York struggles to stay clean while Dallas can afford to pay sanitation to keep their city looking beautiful and spotless.
Lastly, I hope no one judges me but I conducted an experiment while I was there to test the cleanliness of Dallas. I told my cousins about my pondering thoughts and they thought I was silly but decided to help me out. So, we made 5 garbage bags filled with newspapers and dropped them in 5 different locations on the side of the road all over Dallas Friday morning and decided that before I left Saturday night we would revisit these locations and see if they were still there. As I returned to the locations before I left, all the garbage bags were picked up except for one that I left in an almost baron location. Dallas, really takes care of their city and I might even say Texas as a whole. It really makes me wonder why is it that our great city with all its history, monuments/landmarks, and greatness can’t seem to maintain some sanitation.
Thoughts:
1) Can anyone back me up on Texas?
2) How do you guys feel about NYC’s sanitation?
3) Anyone know if there is a real reason as to why NY struggles with it’s cleanliness?
